Indiana Landlord Tenant Laws

Security Deposits
Maximum – In Indiana, Landlords can request any security deposit from the Tenant(s).
Returns – The Landlord has forty-five days after the lease end date to return security deposits to the Tenant.

Disclosures
Lead-Based Paint Disclosure – Any property built before 1978 requires lead paint disclosure under federal law.
Manager Identification – The Landlord MUST disclose the identity of any persons allowed on the premises during the lease term.

Late Fees
Grace Period – There is no grace period in Indiana.
Maximum – The Landlord can charge any amount as no laws govern maximum late rent fee amounts in Indiana.
NSF Fee – $25 per bounced check.

Entry to the Rental Property
Indiana does not govern the Landlord’s entry into rental properties. Some notice to the Tenant is recommended, usually within 24 hours.
