Rental Application Fees ($)

Landlords can only charge one fee from the following list:

• The background check fee
• A credit check fee
• Other screening fee ^[1]

Prohibited Areas in Maine

Landlords cannot charge potential Tenants application fees of any kind in the city of Portland. ^[2]

Disclosure of Criteria (Portland ONLY)

Landlords must give applicants the written criteria for tenancy approval before accepting their application.^[3]

Multiple Fees

Landlords are only allowed to charge a screening fee once every 12-months.

Copies

All screening documents must be given to the Tenant.

Security Deposit Maximum Amount

Landlords can request up to two (2) months rent. ^[4]
